Weathering: the breaking down of rock into sediment
Mechanical Weathering: breaking down rock in a physical, powerful way
Abrasion: material scrapes up against rock to break it up. A type of mechanical weathering.
Mechanical weathering is most common in The Wave (the alternate would be chemical weathering where the rocks are changed chemically). This weathering includes abrasion, wind (the wind would soften the edges), and rain. The abrasion would scrape the rock into sediments, the wind would pluck sediments off, and the rain would catch on rock to form sediments. All those are forms of mechanical weathering.
